Project background:

The Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) is the largest and most profitable non-oil company in the Middle East and the world's fifth-largest petrochemical manufacturer. Its production network in Saudi Arabia consists of 17 subsidiaries and several chemical plants, most of which are located in the Al-Jubeir Industrial City located on the Arabian Gulf coast along the Persian Gulf. The chemical plant has accumulated a large amount of data which is difficult to manage after years of operation and upgrading. The customer once cooperated with multiple information system service providers to develop different information management systems, but all of them had to be abandoned due to various problems such as failing to meet the customer's actual use requirements, insufficient compatibility and insufficient data processing capacity.

Clients turn to a company located far away in Nanjing, China, hoping to use its years of experience in the industry to help them deal with these urgent problems. DDTS quickly responded to customer needs, sorted out customer problems through preliminary research, and set up a project team. After 18 months, a team of engineers from DDTS has successfully helped Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), a petrochemical giant in the Middle East, build STIMS, a smart factory management system. Here's how they do it:

Customer problems: The old system is backward in function and poor in ductility, and the data of several sub-factories cannot be centrally managed, which has seriously lagged behind the current management and application requirements of customers. Owners, operators, various professional personnel from different angles and levels to the system reform requirements.

Solution of DDTS:

Combining with the original system and referring to the international advanced mainstream chemical plant information management method, a new general plant information management solution is proposed, and STIMS system is redefined. STIMS system adopts unified architecture, component application and separate entry management to avoid risks such as incomplete system construction, insufficient application breadth and incompatible upgrade. SmartPlant Foundation, Eagle Map PP&M information management system, is selected as the central foundation platform of STIMS system according to the client's usage. It is designed and developed in combination with the characteristics of SABIC management, as well as the requirements of engineering facilities specifications and coding rules.

Customer problem: The factory has accumulated a large number of paper documents during years of operation and transformation, and it is even difficult to make statistics on them.

Solution of DDTS:

Image recognition technology is used to preprocess documents and extract original files. And construct the document structure, realize the classification of various professional documents, develop standardized data templates according to customer needs, realize the screening of key information, error correction, release thousands of intelligent P&IDs drawings.

Customer problem: Due to inconsistent form of data files and a large number of errors and invalid contents, critical data cannot be extracted effectively. In the process of project implementation, the owner constantly proposed amendments, changes, deletions and supplements.

Solution of DDTS:

Organize data comparison of professional engineers in several professional rooms, such as pipeline, technology, electrical, instrument and civil engineering, implement the four-level quality control process of DDTS, complete the index and upload of more than 300,000 pieces of data, and ensure the data accuracy of more than 95%.

Customer problems: Due to post-management requirements, the customer required the integration of data from several sub-plants and put forward strict requirements on system efficiency.

Solution of DDTS:

Through database programming to achieve data structure optimization, reduce the system reaction time, improve the efficiency of the system.

Customer problem: Due to inadequate management, the data between different factories and the data provided by suppliers in different periods of the same factory are not of the same standard, which cannot be used in the system.

Solution of DDTS:

Develop common data templates according to factory characteristics, and ensure the validity and correctness of data entry into the system through uniform rules.

Customer problem: The operation and maintenance staff of the factory are not familiar with the details of the data.

Solution of DDTS:

Develop Web Portal, customize access channels for different roles, dispatch professionals to write process manuals for different roles, conduct differentiated on-site training for each role of customers, test the training results, and finally issue a qualified entry certificate.

Customer problem: The customer puts forward very high information security requirements on the data, and there are information security risks in the process of data transfer and data processing.

Solution of DDTS:

Hardware: To establish a closed independent project space, using video monitoring system to ensure the integrity of project physical data.

In terms of software: cooperate with Sinosoft to develop ISO27001 high security information security strategy, encrypt local data, and only open several controllable Windows for data transfer and delivery, fully ensuring the quality and integrity of data.

Customer problem: Part of the factory's data involves confidential content, and third parties are forbidden to access the data. Part of the data needs to be completed in the customer's internal network.

Solution of DDTS:

Customized and standardized upload process for customers, helped customers to complete partial data processing by remote means, and developed fully automated upload and self-check tools. Develop silent installation packages to complete integration configuration on customer systems.

After months of hard work, STIMS for PETROKEMYA system was officially launched in March 2015 and STIMS for SAFCO in July 2015, which was unanimously approved by the owners. At present, DDTS is continuing to provide system maintenance services for SABIC, and the second phase of this project will continue soon.
